MOUNT MERU HOSPITAL-REGINAL HOSPITAL

The history of Mt. Meru Hospital goes back to the First World War.
Narrated history has it that it was initially established as a camp for treating casualties of that war. Over the years it gradually evolved into a hospital. The earliest sign available is a placard on the administrative building which states that the building was bequest by one Alfred de Rothschild and laid by one Lady Rees on 11th November 1926!
Mt Meru regional Hospital has a 450-bedcapacity and is the main referral & teaching hospital in Northern Tanzania.
The hospital receives 500 patients in different departments per day, providing plenty of scope for learning about different specialties and healthcare professional roles.
Daily morning session is conducted every morning Monday to Friday for doctors, clinical officers, heads of departments and on duty nurses which is mainly for professional discussions and experience sharing on the day to day management of the patents. From time to time staff members are also asked to bring in suggestions and comments for improving Health care delivery in the hospital.
To be able to do your internship in Mt Meru hospital you need to be on 3rd year or further in your studies. Interns need to bring their own working clothes and shoes and also lot of gloves and hand disinfection liquid.
